The first flight departs in mid-May from Newark to Singapore using an Airbus A340-500 ultra-long-range aircraft outfitted with 100 Business Class seats in a 1-2-1 configuration. At 30-inches, the seats are the widest Business Class offering in the sky.

The new service requires retrofitting five A340-500s. That means the Tuesday non-stop from LA will not operate from mid-May to mid-June.

Good:

The Business Class seats are Best in Class.

Bad:

Singapore’s Executive Economy Class seats, a great low-cost option, will go by the wayside.

Ugly:

If you’re booked in Executive Economy Class on an A340-500, the airline will only reaccommodate you, where possible, on other Singapore Airlines flights, in economy class. The airline doesn’t consider it a downgrade, even though seats are an inch narrower and offer five inches less legroom.

Uglier:

Only unrestricted awards are available for redemption of flights on the all-Business Class A340-500.
