Starwood’s Preferred Guest (SPG) Amex, our top rated credit card for several years now because of its extensive partner network and point exchange rate (25% bonus), has finally remedied its one defect: no corporate card. That meant new cardholders were given low spending limits and those who tried to get away with using it for business purchases (including yours truly) were even called on the carpet. (For more on why this card gets our highest marks, see FCF July 2006, page 4.)

Here’s the lowdown on the new Starwood Preferred Guest Business Credit Card:

  • No fee first year, $30 annually thereafter
  • One point for each eligible dollar spent
  • 50%-off certificate for a Star wood hotel stay upon membership (and annual renewal) and a 10,000 Star point bonus with first purchase
  • Card usage earns bonus Starpoints at Starwood hotels
  • Frequent flyer programs
  • Starpoints can be redeemed at more than 825 Starwood hotels and resorts in 95 countries for free nights with no blackout dates.
  • Screen Shot 2015-10-09 at 10.28.17 PM
  • Automatic upgrade to Gold Preferred Guest membership when charges exceed $30,000 in a calendar year
  • Access to private sales with select Starwood retail outlets
  • Online expense tracking system
  • Retail and travel protections, such as Global Assist, Car Rental Loss & Damage Insurance, Purchase Protection Insurance, Travel Accident Insurance, American Express Card Baggage Insurance, Buyers Assurance Plan, Express Cash Emergency Card Replacement, Emergency Check Cashing, and 24-hour customer service.
