American Airlines’ First Class Loo On March 1 American opened up a new First Class seat to coach passengers: the lavatory. In 2003 the airline restricted its use to First Class passengers—the only airline to have such a rule. My take: This is acceptable if it’s limited to the first few rows of economy. Otherwise, I don’t see the benefit to those in First Class who are paying top dollar. The change applies to domestic flights and to international flights from the US. Under Transportation Security Administration rules, passengers on incoming international flights still most use the lavatories in their cabin.
This Just In… Starwood Hotel’s Starwood Preferred Guest (SPG) program has just raised the purchase limit on Starpoints to 100,000 annually. That’s one of the best affinity deals going because Starpoints are transferable to 30 different airlines, and there’s a 25% transfer bonus! That means you can net 125,000 miles annually, bringing the cost-per-mile down to 2.8¢. Available in increments of 500. American Express, Visa, MasterCard, Discover and Diners Club accepted as payment. Details: https://starwood.mpmvp.com/Default.asp.
Next month I will flesh out the fine print, including how to get around the purchase limit and the poor transfer ratios the program offers with United and Continental.
