We’ve discovered some routes where First Class fares are within a few dollars of economy—sometimes less—with no advance purchase or minimum stay required.

Continental: A New York-Dallas round-trip in First Class costs $1,238 (code R). Book economy with no advance and pay $1,794 (code H).

United Airlines: A First Class, New York-Detroit round-trip costs $478 (code A). For economy with no advance you’ll pay $558 (code U).

United/Continental: The First Class fare from New York to Minneapolis is $1,798 (codes P/R), just a few dollars more than no-advance coach at $1,618 (codes B/Y).

It pays to check economy and First Class fares at all times.
