In the June issue’s story on South America you failed to mention TAM, a relatively new yet excellent carrier. It offers reasonable prices from its two US gateways, Miami and NYC, and has three-cabin aircraft. More importantly, the service quality is far superior to UA, DL, or AA. (As I have never flown Continental to South America I cannot offer a comparison.) TAM partners with UA, LH, and AF.
Also, I am guessing that Lufthansa is using the old “Privateair” planes for its new all-Business Class service from Boston to Munich. If so, it’s not worth considering as the seats are dismal. On Privateair, the seats didn’t even have monitors, not to mention that they were narrow and hardly reclined. See you up front…

My wife and I have a wedding in Scotland in September. We began working with American back in March to get award seats from Dallas to London non-stop. You know the results: no seats available for mileage or upgrade. We then looked at Iberia through Miami and Madrid or BA from Canada. No luck. We ended up booking Dallas-Calgary and connecting there with BA (777) to London and on to Scotland. We are coming home through Toronto. It’s costing 90,000 miles each in Business Class (except the last leg to Scotland, which is economy). AA does not advertise these excellent routes.
