March 2008

Delta Air Lines is looking to introduce nine new trans-Atlantic routes from JFK to launch by the end of 2008, and has announced five new routes to Latin America which have recently begun service.

The new trans-Atlantic routes and inaugural dates are: Amman, Jordan (June 5); Cairo, Egypt (June 4); Cape Town, South Africa (via Dakar, June 3 assuming DOT approval); Dakar, Senegal (June 3); Edinburgh, Scotland (May 1); Lagos, Nigeria (Dec. 11); Malaga, Spain (June 4); Nairobi, Kenya (via Dakar, Dec. 8); Tel Aviv, Israel (March 10).

The new Latin America routes: Guatemala City, Guatemala; Liberia, Costa Rica; Panama City, Panama; Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago; San Jose, Costa Rica.

Time to redeem miles

When an airline rolls out new routes (or adds flights to an existing one), the chances of getting mileage award and upgrade seats can increase. We checked availability for the new Cairo, Cape Town, and Nairobi service and found plenty of upgrades from coach to Business Class.

Giving credit where credit is due, Delta is taking steps to decrease congestion at JFK by eliminating all turbo-prop flights and increasing the number of flights using two-class jets.
