This time last year we were fruitlessly searching for low fares to Europe. That’s right: no bananas. Actually, they were watermelon-sized at $3,100-$4,200 from the East Coast, and $3,500-$5,500 from the West. The New York-Venice round-trip on Delta was, and still is, a seed-spitting $6,300+. The pits, right?

Happily, things are heating up in 2024 with summer fares from the East Coast 15%-45% lower than regular published fares and 23%-37% lower from the West Coast.

Oneworld is the clear frontrunner with juicy offerings of up to 45% off on flights from Washington, DC to Denmark and with savings of up to 40% on flights from Miami to Berlin, Dublin, and Prague and on flights from Phoenix to Dublin and Madrid.

When booking through British Airways, you can typically save an additional $140 to $430 on BA flights with the AARP Member Discount (anyone of any age can join for $12) and British Airways Visa Card discount (current promo code is CHASEBA10).

Star Alliance can net you savings of up to 40% off on routes like Boston to Budapest and Glasgow; New York to Genoa and Barcelona; and Orlando-Valencia (that’s the city, not the orange).
