The best cheap First Class ticket to Hawaii can be had for about the same money as coach, with Northwest Airlines. But you won't find it the traditional way.

If you call Northwest for a quote on a cheap First Class ticket from Los Angeles to Honolulu, you’ll be told the fare is $1,902 round-trip.

But if you call Northwest WorldVacations, the carrier’s packaged-vacations Division, and you’ll be quoted $721 round-trip, which is 60 percent less. That's what economy class can cost at times, so it's definitely the best cheap First Class ticket.

There is a catch, but it's one you can cope with in order to get this fare. Depending on the destination and departure city, these packages require a three- or five-day car rental (as little as $117) or a two-night hotel stay. You will probably need one or both of these anyway.

Northwest also discounts First Class on inter-island hops to Lihue, Maui, and Kona. Fares are usually better from the west coast, where, coincidently, First Class fares to Hawaii can be higher (for half the distance) than the east coast.

Northwest is a SkyTeam alliance member, allowing you to earn mileage and elite credit with Continental, Delta and others. For this best cheap First Class ticket to Hawaii, call Northwest WorldVacations: (800) 800-1504.

I always check the airline's vacation site. I recently booked a trip from Seattle to Maui in May. No package deals on the American site, but I found a nonstop deal on Hawaiian that saved about $200 a seat, and the fare included the rental car. We get AAdvantage miles, too, so I'm happy.

What is the best way to get a deal on First Class flights from Denver to Oahu?

Looks like Aloha flys nonstop from DEN to HNL. I would check their vacation site. Northwest services the route, but you have to fly *backwards* to MSP out of DEN first.

going to Maui in 2 weeks, we booked Continential out of Little Rock to Seattle, then connect with Northwest in Seattle to Maui. This has been a pain in the pocketbook, my ATA flight was cancelled last weekend, had to rebook & pay $500 more than the original ticket and was charged $200 for changing my original Continential ticket's times & dates in order to go on vacation. It probably would've been cheaper to have just cancelled my Maui condo & car reservations ($400 charge!) but it is Maui, what we are forced sometimes to pay to be her today gone to Maui!!

Unfortunately, both ATA and Aloha have now gone into bankruptcy, so the choices are fewer. If you're looking to go to Hawaii, also check the Hawaiian Air vacations website. As I noted beore, we bagged a couple of first class tickets with a car thrown in for less than the published price.
