Airlines with non-stop flights between North America and Europe allow you to choose nearly any city in Europe as your destination and another city as your free stop-over. All of the North American domestic airlines flying to Europe have non-stop flights, and alliance partnerships make it easy to switch to a European carrier for a connecting flight to a second city.

In other words, for the same number of American miles—whether you’re in coach, Business Class or First Class—you can tack on a free trip as far away as the Canary Islands when booking American Airlines flights to Europe from the US. Simply make the Islands your destination, and request a stop-over in a city like Paris.

Alternatively, fly Chicago-Paris (technically the stop-over city) on American Airlines, then Paris-Helsinki (the destination) on Finnair or British Airways. Both are Oneworld partners with American Airlines and allow this routing on typical mileage awards.

Then return to Paris from Helsinki on Finnair or British Airways and connect to American Airlines for the flight back to Chicago.
